It's time to sharpen your skates.
The Emera Oval is scheduled to open Saturday, Dec. 15 for the winter season, with the first public skate at 11 a.m., weather permitting.
Those who don't have equipment can borrow skates and helmets onsite for free with a valid government-issued photo ID.
Children 12 and under must wear a CSA-approved multi-impact helmet at all times on the ice and those older than 12 are encouraged to do the same.
Staff will also be holding "Learn to Skate" classes beginning Jan 5. Haligonians can register online or by calling 902-490-6666.
A number of events will be held at the oval throughout the winter, including on New Year's Eve when there will be face painting, hot chocolate and fireworks displays at 7 p.m. and midnight.
The Emera Oval is the largest artificial ice surface east of Quebec, the same size at three NHL hockey rinks.
