Dorian-related closures and cancellations for Saturday, Sept. 7

The Macdonald and MacKay bridges are closing, says HHB just before 4 p.m.

Halifax Transit buses, Access-A-Buses and ferries will stop running at noon Saturday, with hopes the service can restart at noon on Sunday

Halifax Stanfield International Airport says the significant weather conditions could cause flight delays, cancellations & schedule changes over the weekend. They're asking passengers to confirm their flight status with their airline. 

RCMP are asking Nova Scotians to avoid unnecessary travel during Dorian

The Tancook ferry will be out of service as of 11:00 p.m after the last run Friday night


Dalhousie's Halifax and Truro campuses as well as the University of King's College will be closing early at 2p.m. on Saturday. They're asking their campus community to take appropriate safety precautions and not attempt to access campus buildings (other than assigned student residences) during the campus closure.

Saint Mary's University will be closed at 6 a.m. on Saturday for the day. Students living in residences will continue to receive services

NSCAD University will be closed as of Saturday at 12 p.m.


Maritime Forces Atlantic says, due to Dorian, all CUTLASS FURY ships will depart Halifax Friday afternoon to reduce the risk of damage to equipment. This means ships tours Friday and Saturday have been cancelled and events at HMC Dockyard will not be going ahead. HMCS Scotian will be open to the public Friday afternoon. A decision on Monday's sail past will be made later this weekend.

The Matt Minglewood show slated for the Shore Club on Saturday, September 7th has been postponed until Saturday, October 12th

Mic Mac Mall will remain closed all day Saturday

The Halifax Seaport Farmers' Market will not open Saturday, September 7 and will remain closed Sunday, September 8

Saturday's Alderney Landing Farmers Market will close early at 11 a.m. The Alderney Landing building will be fully locked to the public by 1 p.m. The Sunday market is cancelled for this weekend.

The Hubbards Farmers Market will not open on Saturday September 7

All TD bank branches in Halifax and the surrounding area will be closed Saturday

Some businesses have indicated they will be closing early on Saturday 


All provincial campgrounds, beaches and day-use parks  will close at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 6, with the hopes that some can reopen by noon on Monday

The Shubenacadie Provincial Wildlife Park will also close at 7 p.m., reopening at 9 a.m. Sunday, if it is safe to do so

Kejimkujik National Park and National Historic Site and Kejimkujik Seaside will close at 7 p.m. Friday. Any visitors and campers in the parks at that time will be asked to leave. This closure will remain in place until conditions are safe, and will be re-assessed Sunday

Ambassatours says all of their previously scheduled tours on Saturday have been cancelled

Municipal splash pads and the Emera Oval will be closed Saturday, Sept. 7 

The Centennial Pool will be closed on both Saturday, Sept. 7 and Sunday, Sept. 8. Staff will assess the situation on Sunday with regards to opening on Monday

The Saint Mary’s Boat Club is closed today, as is the Lebrun Recreation Centre, Acadia Centre, as is the Bedford Hammonds Plains Community Centre. The Gordon R. Snow Recreation Centre will close at 1 p.m.

The Captain William Spry Community Centre will close at noon

Cole Harbour Place will be closed Saturday and plans to reopen at noon on Sunday. The pool will open Sunday at 1 p.m. for the Parent & Tot Swim.

The following community centres are closed in Dartmouth and on the Eastern Shore:

  • Musquodoboit Harbour
  • Sheet Harbour Recreation Centre and Seaside Fitness Centre
  • Cole Harbour Recreation Centre is closed
  • Tallahassee is closed today and on Sunday.
  • Findlay Community Centre  will close at noon
  • Dartmouth North Community Centre will close at noon
  • North Preston Community Centre will close at 1pm today

Other HRM recreation facilities may be closed over the weekend. Please call ahead to your individual facility before heading out


The Bishop's at Saint Mary's football game has been rescheduled to Friday, Sept. 6 at 7 p.m. in Halifax

The Saint Mary’s at Acadia women’s rugby game (originally scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 7 at 2 p.m.) will now be played tomorrow, Friday, Sept. 6 at 2 p.m. in Wolfville

The Dalhousie/Saint Mary's Invitational cross country meet scheduled for Sunday at Point Pleasant Park has been cancelled


Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21 will be closed Saturday

Maritime Museum of the Atlantic will be closed Saturday

Museum of Natural History will be closed Saturday

Uniacke Estate Museum Park will be closed Saturday


The Canadian Blood Services donor centre at 7071 Bayers Road, Halifax, will be closed on Saturday due to Hurricane Dorian, all pre-booked donors will be notified of their appointment cancellation

The following Nova Scotia Health Authority's blood collection clinics, normally open Saturday, will close at 11 a.m.: 

  • Bayers Road Centre in Halifax
  • Dartmouth General Hospital
  • Woodlawn Blood Collection on Main Street in Dartmouth
  • The Community Wellness Centre at Spryfield Shopping Centre
  • St. Margaret's Square in Tantallon


The Household Special waste depot at the Bayer’s Lake facility and the mobile Household Special Waste event at Oyster Pond Academy scheduled for Sept. 7 will both be cancelled. The mobile collection event will be rescheduled at a later date

The municipal Refuse Depots located in Sheet Harbour and Middle Musquodoboit will be closed Saturday, Sept. 7

Provincially operated visitor information centres will be closed on Saturday, Sept. 7 and Sunday, Sept. 8, including the locations at the Halifax waterfront, Halifax Stanfield International Airport and Peggys Cove
