Deadlines for write-in ballots approaching

If you want to apply for a write-in ballot online or by mail, you'll need to do it by this weekend.

Elections Nova Scotia says the deadline is 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7.

However, you'll still be able to apply for one in person or by agent until 6 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 14  (out of district) or 3 p.m. on Tuesday, August 17 (in district).

Once a write-in ballot application is approved by Elections Nova Scotia, the voter will be sent a write-in ballot kit with instructions.

Those kits need to be returned before 8 p.m. on Election Day.

"Voters are asked to please allow adequate time to their write-in ballot can be returned by the deadline," Elections Nova Scotia says.

Nova Scotians go to the polls on Tuesday, Aug. 17.

As of Aug. 3, Elections Nova Scotia has processed 3,937 applications for write-in ballots and 20,301 votes have been cast at the returning office continuous polls in the 55 electoral districts for the 41st provincial general election.
