Halifax Fire crews are expected to be back on the scene this morning, after a large number of tires were found on fire in Eastern Passage on Sunday.

Crews were called out to the vicinity of Lafitte Ln. at about 4:15 p.m. to reports of dark smoke in the area.

Deputy Chief Dave Meldrum says firefighters found a pile of tires on fire in a wooded area about 750 m from the road. He says the fire was put out and crews mitigated the risk of any spread.

Meldrum says it's not clear what the site is used for, or how the fire started.
