Halifax councillors have approved a budget proposal from Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency.
The service will receive an additional $5.5 million, for a total budget of just over $76 million.
Officials say the money will be used to hire more employees, cutting down on overtime costs while also reducing response times.
Overall budget discussions will continue into next month.
