17-year old facing mischief charge after kidnapping 'prank call': police

A 17-year old is facing a charge of mischief after reportedly faking a call about a kidnapping

Halifax Regional Police responded to a reported kidnapping overnight, that began with a phone call around eight o'clock in the evening.

Two hours later, investigators were able to trace the victim's phone to an address on Rosedale Avenue between Dutch Village Road and Alex Street. Investigators could not contact those inside the residence, and at 1:25 this morning, members of the Emergency Response Team arrested two men, and one woman inside the address.

The victim was subsequently found unharmed, and in good health.

Shortly thereafter, police arrested the suspect they charge is responsible for the threatening phone call at a residence on Mont Blanc Terrace, near Barrington Street. Police confirmed a 17-year old made a prank call advising the victim was kidnapped, and would be killed if his demands were not met.

The teenager is charged with mischief, and was released on a promise to appear in court at a later date. Meanwhile, the three adults were released without charges.
