The Department of Lands and Forestry says a forest fire that began yesterday, May 22, continues to burn in Chester Grant, Lunenburg County.
The fire is estimated to cover about 27 hectares and there are 14 fire departments, water supply tankers, as well a helicopter on scene.
Crews were alerted to the fire shortly after it began around 4:30 p.m. Friday, and continued to battle it until 9:00 p.m. They returned at first light this morning to continue putting out the fire.
"Fire activity is low and crews are working hard to contain it before conditions worsen," says a release from Lands and Forestry this morning. A second helicopter that was assisting last night has been released from duty.
The department says two structures were damaged yesterday but does not confirm whether there are any injuries, and say the cause of the fire is unknown.
The public is asked to avoid the area.
