There were no injuries, but a dozen people have been temporarily displaced due to a fire early Thursday morning at an apartment building in Dartmouth.

Halifax Regional Police and the Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency were called to the three-storey complex on Lakefront Road near Portland Street at around 3:45 a.m.

One apartment was extensively damaged and the Canadian Red Cross says a woman and 4-year-old have had to find another place to stay. The organization is helping them with emergency purchases like clothing, food and other basics.

Other tenants have also arranged temporary lodging while their homes are cleaned up from smoke and/or water damage.

It took about 40 minutes to extinguish the fire, and investigators believe it was intentionally set.

Halifax Regional Police have now launched an arson investigation and officers remain on scene.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 902-490-5016 or submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers.
