Stephenville man arrested after early morning arson at Irving gas station

STEPHENVILLE, N.L. — Bay St. George RCMP have arrested a man in connection with an early morning arson at an Irving gas station and convenience store in Stephenville, N.L.

STEPHENVILLE, N.L. — Bay St. George RCMP have arrested a man in connection with an early morning arson at an Irving gas station and convenience store in Stephenville, N.L. 

David Morris, 38, was taken into custody Monday after police were called to a fire around 1:30 a.m. at the gas station on Main Street.

Police say Morris was present when officers arrived at the scene and was taken into custody.

Authorities say gasoline from the business was used to start the fire.

Police say the interior of the building suffered extensive damage and that the investigation is ongoing.

Morris was taken to hospital for injuries sustained during the fire and is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 19.
