ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary and the Nova Scotia Serious Incident Response Team are investigating a fatal vehicle collision in St. John's on Friday night that left a 19-year-old woman dead.

The RNC says a patrol officer tried to initiate a traffic safety stop on Hamlyn Road with a Honda Accord just before 10:30 p.m.

The Accord, holding four occupants, including the 19-year-old woman, failed to stop and hit an S-U-V.

The 17-year-old female driver of the Accord is in hospital with serious injuries and two male youths who were in the same car sustained minor injuries.

The driver of the S-U-V, and lone occupant, sustained minor injuries as well.

The chief of police has requested that the Serious Incident Response Team conduct an independent investigation, as in all cases where an injury or fatality occurs when an RNC officer is present.
